A group of farmers in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region discovered a tomb decorated with murals dating back about 1,000 years ago, Xinhua reported on Friday.

According to Inner Mongolia Museum of Prehistoric Culture, the tomb was built in the middle and late periods of Liao Dynasty (907-1125). The Liao Dynasty was established by the Khitan people, a ancient nomadic people originating from northern part of China.

Archaeologists managed to reveal the murals, about six square meters in area, which vividly depict people's lifestyles and traditions during the Liao period, according to the museum.

The murals are currently kept at the museum, and will be repaired by professionals for further research.
